Default Swearing Enforcement

There have been posts concerning the enforcement of language on the servers, and it's time we get everyone, including mods on the same page.

Rule of thumb: "If you hear it on daytime television, it can fly."

This means "damn" "crap" and various other swears we learn from the television at an early age are appropriate in moderation. "Ass" is starting to push it, and will be frowned upon (excessive use will still get you banned.) Anything worse is a ban.

Addendum by Nightshade:
In addition to swearing, chat messages that are offensive or disruptive to other players are not permitted. This includes, but is not limited to:

- Removing letters, or using numbers or symbols in a word to disguise it in an attempt to avoid the chat filter
- Using race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, handicap or gender as a means of insult
- Using threatening, harassing, defamatory or hate related language
- Using sexually explicit, vulgar or profane language or abbreviations of such
- Providing links to websites that are pornographic, obscene or offensive
- Impersonating another player via chat
- Spamming or flooding the chat with repetitive letters, words or messages
- Repetitive use of all capitals
- Discussion of illegal activities and messages that violate or provoke others to violate the law
- Flaming, trolling or provoking others to respond with "flames"

The moderators and administrators are here to ensure that the chat rules are enforced. Publically disrespecting or attempting to argue with a moderator or admin in chat will not be tolerated. If you have a complaint about a ban or moderator, send a PM or post it in the support forums.

Violation of these rules will result in a warning, kick, temporary ban or permanent ban depending on the severity of the violation. Repeated violations regardless of the severity will result in a permanent ban.

Just because the word has a separate non-swear meaning does not mean you're free to use it.

Mods still have the final word on how they are used in context, and bans will not be up for discussion.

I hope this clears things up.

Also, don't forget about the people who bypass the filters using ! and $ replacing i and s
As well as racial/ethnicity slurs, demeaning comments, etc.
Keep it clean ya'll!

Question

What about players who take letters out, i.e. "btch" or "fck" they are pretty much bypassing the system.

What exactly is an "instant ban"? Does that mean they're permanently banned, temporarally banned, or just kicked? I'd hate to see 1 strike and you're out forever as the policy, as I see that as a little harsh.

takes a pretty gnarly offense to receive a permanent ban.. ill say that much.

otherwise the bans referred to herein are 30 minute bans.

"gay" is much more context dependent.

Guys, the moral of the story is, don't be insulting, inappropriate or otherwise poisonous and there is little to be concerned over.

Using αινσϊ (presuming these work in-game) is also a form of bypassing right?

It's very frustrating to be able to freely say 'dammit this is hella stupid' but not 'this is gay' or 'I'm going to rape that crab.'
